Why Flevoland is a frontrunner in renewable energy

Flevoland generates about 25% of the renewable energy in the Netherlands. There are many examples of initiatives to apply new energy solutions in Flevoland. GIGA storage with the biggest battery in the Netherlands, is an innovative example from our region. They store electricity during low demand and supply it during peak hours. Innovative local energy hubs create the newest innovations for net congestion with battery storage and green energy. The newest warehouses in Lelystad are a prime example by being almost entirely self-sufficient.

Energy utility provider Engie has invested 40 million in new generator turbines and a 35MW battery park, updates to the Maxima Centrale for the storage of power and the use of hydrogen.
